“Excuse Me Fine Lady, Are You Going My Way?”
Dear Young Person, I’m not sure who you’ve been listening to, and I’m not here to ask you to listen to me.
I’m here to say:
Decide what path you want to walk, then find worthy lips and glue your ears to those lips.
If You decide that your audience is people who follow you for the physical attributes and glam, go listen to Saidaboj, Bob With The Risk And The Likes.
I Would Never Judge Your Choices.
So Far As They Don’t Intersect With My Path.
I Knew Early That I Possessed A Great Love For Cerebral Conversations And Content.
While Folks Feared Philosophy, I Spent Hours Downloading Videos On Existentialism And Studying Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, And The Other Great Philosophers.
I Also Knew That I Took Deep Pride In Facing Challenges.
That’s Why I Didn’t Run From Courses I Didn’t Like At First Glance. Statistics.
Advanced Level Economics.
Stuff That Needs Some More Attention To Sort Out. I Knew That I Loved To Call The Shots.
I Could Walk Into A Room Of Confused Or Overwhelmed People, And Set It Straight With Order.
I Knew Also, That I Possessed A Good Amount Of Physical Beauty.
And I Wanted To Be That Person Who Lived The Best Of All Worlds! Beautiful.
Intelligent. Knowledgeable. Resourceful.
Powerful.
So, You Know That My “Worthy Lips” Are Not Those Who Trade In Skin And Glow Only.
My “Worthy Lips” Would Be Found In The Halls Of History.
In The Archives Of Academia.
On The Pathways Of Power.
I Would Find Them In Mentors. In Fellowships.
In Courses.
When My Lecturer Recommended Me To Speak Before Heads Of States And Pan-African Leaders, He Saw All Of That.
That’s The Point.
My Suggestion To You Is:
No Just Follow Who No Road. Follow Who Dey Go Where You Dey Go.
Yours Always,
The Talk Queen,
Neeta Rare.
